fuel cycle company Synatom, a subsidiary of the private electricity
supply company Electrabel, is in charge of managing the fuel
cycle for all Belgium’s NPPs, from uranium procurement
to spent fuel management.

Products/Services/Activities: SKB operates systems
and facilities for the management and final disposal of
spent nuclear fuel and other radioactive waste from the
Swedish nuclear power plants as well as from industry,
medical care and research. For this purpose SKB has built
a final repository for short-lived operational waste and
an interim storage facility for spent nuclear fuel. What
remains to be built is an encapsulation plant and a deep
repository for final disposal. With regard to these plans
SKB conducts extensive research, development and demonstration
work. SKB is responsible for coordination and investigations
regarding the costs for nuclear waste, future decommissioning,
strategic stockpiling of uranium, etc. SKB International
Consultants Co, a subsidiary to SKB, acts as an international
consultant on the management and disposal of nuclear waste. |
