-
A High Scientific Council (HSC) advises the European Nuclear Society.
-
The HSC Members are 8 to 15 Scientists of high
repute, coming from at least 5 European countries, selected by the
President (see below) and nominated by the ENS Board.
-
HSC has a president, who is elected by the Members and confirmed
by the ENS Board.
-
Members and the President are nominated for a 3 year period, renewable
indefinitely.
-
The disciplines represented in the HSC will include
different science fields, related to the use of nuclear technologies,
among them Physics, Biology, Medicine, Engineering and Social Sciences.
-
It is desirable to have at least one member representing each
discipline in the HSC.
-
If needs arise members of HSC will create ENS
Scientific Subcommittees, responsible for work on particular issues.
Each subcommittee would have a president, who might be, but is not
necessarily, a member of HSC.
-
The work in HSC and subcommittees is voluntary.
-
The main tasks of HSC are:
| 9.1.
|
To
critically review the current situation of the science and technology
in the fields of interest for ENS. |
| 9.2. |
To
initiate discussion on certain issues and create Subcommittees. |
| 9.3.
|
To
approve position statements on relevant issues. |
| 9.4.
|
To
advise the ENS Programme Committee on ENS-sponsored Conferences |
| 9.5. |
To
award the Prize of the Year to the best European Scientific
Achievement in disciplines of interest to ENS. |
-
The Secretariat of ENS will provide administrative support to the
work of the HSC and Subcommittees.
-
The President of HSC is responsible for co-ordination of activities
Subcommittees. Contacts should be made primarily by electronic means.
-
HSC should meet at least once per year, preferably during one
of the major ENS conferences. The meetings of subcommittees should
be organised in a similar way.
-
Any member of the HSC would, ex officio, be offered editorial
space in ENS publications.
-
Members of the HSC may be solicited to take part ex officio in
media events as required. In case of "national" events,
foreign HSC members would be especially welcomed.
