General information about the national YG network

The Romanian YG is fully integrated in the Romanian Association for "NUCLEAR ENERGY" – (Asociatia Romana pentru Energie Nucleara - AREN) and its chairman and co-chairman are members of the AREN steering committee. Members of the Romanian YG are young professionals working in nuclear related field up to 35 years old.

The network consists of about 50 registered members and all of them are also members of AREN. However, due to a combination of factors, it lost impetus and by 2000, it had become inactive. In 2003, due to the stimulus of an International Symposium on Nuclear Energy 2003, organised by AREN in Bucharest, the Romanian YGN was rejuvenated and at the beginning of 2004 become an active organisation.

The elections held on 2004, established a new and more effective organization structure of the Romanian Young Generation working in nuclear field and was supported by the attention of many company’s top management on assuring and preserving well trained professionals in this field.

We developed the corresponding membership in order to:

  • include geographically remote areas (Pitesti, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Valcea)

  • a link to maintain experienced members who no longer can fulfil meeting commitments

  • a method to bring gradually familiarise new members who are part of the committee succession planning process

To establish a national network of professionals within the “younger generation” members of the AREN that is willing to make efforts to raise their awareness of the industry as a whole and learn from the experiences and knowledge of mature established professionals. In this way it is intended that:

  • young people will be encouraged to stay within the nuclear industry and provide a resource for the future;

  • a support network will be created to enhance personal development of members and act as a vehicle for their career development within the wider nuclear industry and their specific fields.

Based on those established by the European Nuclear Society, Romanian YG objectives are to:

  • focus on the next generation;

  • promote knowledge across a wide perspective of the nuclear industry;

  • transfer the knowledge between generations;

  • provide a platform for:

    • exchange of experience,

    • exchange of best practice across companies,

    • development of nuclear technology,

    • career development.
