The Spanish Young Generation Network was created in 1996 as an SNE Committee. The project started following the creation of the European Young Generation Network, based on Jan Runermark’s idea.
The main objectives of this committee are the following:
To spread information about nuclear energy,
To promote communication and debate between young professionals in the nuclear sector, and
Transfer of knowledge between generations/help to provide new young professionals to the nuclear field
First responsible for this committee was Mar Dominguez (ENUSA), who met young people from different companies in order to share experiences and organize activities. During this period some technical tours were organized: one to Juzbado fuel elements factory in Salamanca, and the second to the low-medium level radioactive waste repository of El Cabril (Córdoba). Apart from that, the Spanish Young Generation Network took part in the publication of the “Position Paper” of the European Young Generation Network.
In 1999, after some period of any activities of the committee, Luis Garcia (Iberdrola) started his period as head of the Spanish Young Generation Network. At this time, a renovation of the data base was needed, so this was the first activity of a new group of people willing to give the Spanish Young Generation Network a new impulse. After renovation of the data base, adoption of a new name for the committee(Jóvenes Nucleares) and creation of a logo, lots of activities were organized: active participation in the Annual Meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society (Granada, 1999; León 2000), technical meetings among young professionals, participation in European Young Generation activities (Core Meetings, COP 6) and in the first International Youth Nuclear Congress in Bratislava. Besides that, some conferences and round tables about nuclear energy at Universities and residences were organized.
In 2001, another change in the head of the committee took place. Miguel Embid (CIEMAT) became the new president of Jóvenes Nucleares, following the kind of activities and cooperation between young professionals and students that this committee was organizing. During 2001 and 2002, some more conferences at universities were organized, and an electronic address was created, as a way of communicating with people. A member of the committee became part of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Nuclear Society, and three of them took part in the technical committee of the 28th Annual Meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society. As far as international activities are concerned, two members of Jóvenes Nucleares took part in the second International Youth Nuclear Congress in Korea, and in the EYGN Core Meetings.
In 2003, Isabel Gómez (Iberdrola) became the new responsible for the committee. At that point, the committee experimented a strong renovation, with the incorporation of new professionals willing to do lots of things. A new data base was created, and the committee started to be advertised in the official magazine of the Spanish Nuclear Society. This period has been one of the most productive of Jóvenes Nucleares, being present as consequence of this in almost every edition of the Spanish Nuclear Society monthly magazine, and, for first time, organizing an ENS YGN Core Meeting in Spain...
In January 2005 Manuel Martín was elected as new president of Jóvenes Nucleares with the complete support of all the members. His presidency is expected to be a consolidation of the new ideas, motivations and initiatives from the previous period as well as a period for increasing the presence of Jóvenes Nucleares within the Spanish Nuclear Society.
In March 2006 the JJNN Bylaws were approved. This fact inspired JJNN to consolidate both itself as a motivated and eager commission and its objectives. At the same time, Sylvia Choithramani (ENUSA) was elected as new president. This time corresponds to a very active period in which an web site has been developed and many conferences and debates have been held.
