Transfers of knowhow

In addition to the daily networking, the ENS organises various activities in order to ensure mutual learning and the transfer of nuclear know-how to the actual and future generations and to communicate on nuclear science and technology, inside and outside the nuclear world.

The future of nuclear is with the young generation

Highly qualified and motivated professionals have brought the nuclear industry where it is today. A prerequisite for the continuous 'sustainability' of nuclear science and technology is the availability of motivated students and young professionals. Future nuclear technologies, research and development, and industrial applications are therefore dependent on education and know-how transfer between the older and the younger generations. Following from this in 1995, ENS supported a proposal from the late Jan Runermark, the then President-elect of ENS, to help spread the Young Generation Network (YGN) - a network of young professionals and students - to all member countries within the European Nuclear Society. No matter how great the enthusiasm is, it is clear we can only reach our goals if there is a strong synergy between the generations – a synergy in which know-how and experience is combined with fighting spirit and openness. Only then we can pursue new paths together and motivate today's young people - and only then we can shape the image of a high-tech industry full of promise for the future.

Various national and international young generation activities and a permanent representation of the ENS young generation in the governing bodies of the ENS ensure a framework for the implementation of knowhow transfer.

Visit the young generation section of this website to get more info about their ongoing and future activities.

If you have ideas and suggestions on organising a 'young-and-older in dialogue' event, or on the better integration of young professionals into the national and international nuclear scene, we invite you to contact the ENS Young Generation Network president or the ENS conference manager.
