Beta decay

scroll

This is radioactive conversion emitting a beta particle. During beta decay the mass number of the parent nuclide is equal to the newly created nuclide, whereas the atomic number of the newly created nuclei changes by one unit; namely the atomic number during beta decay emitting a positron becomes smaler by one unit (see 'beta-plus decay') and during beta decay emitting a negative electron greater by one unit (see 'beta-minus decay').
