Chelating agents, DTPA
scroll
Chemicals such as diethylenetriamine pentaacetate are
chelators. Chelators are organic compounds capable of integrating metal
ions in the organic molecule in such a way that the metal ion loses
its chemical properties essential for its biological behaviour and can
therefore be excreted more rapidly from the body. Thus, effective decorporation
agents in the form of Ca-DTPA and Zn-DTPA - in particular for plutonium
- are available.
