EPR

scroll

European Pressurized Reactor. The EPR is characterized by further improved safety and economic efficiency. Compared to the existing pressurized water reactor lines of both countries, the EPR is designed to control extremely improbable serious incidents involving core melt-down itself in such a way as to limit the radiological effects on the environment of the plant in order to avoid evacuation of the population and permanent impairment of agriculture in the region around the plant. The EPR is designed for an electric power of 1 600 MW. Nuclear power plants with an EPR are under construction in Finland and France.
