Excited state

State of an atom or a nucleus with a higher energy
than that of its normal energetic state. The excessive energy is generally
emitted as photons (gamma quantum). Example: Ba-137m changes into the
normal state of Ba-137 emitting a gamma quantum with the energy of 662
keV.
