Gas centrifuge process
scroll
Process to separate isotopes in which heavy atoms are
split from the lighter atoms by centrifugal forces. The separation
factor depends on the mass difference of the isotopes to be separated.
The process is suitable for the separation of uranium isotopes, the
achievable separation factor amounts to 1.25. Uranium enrichment plants
applying this process are operated in Gronau/Wesphalia (Germany) and
by URENCO at Capenhurst (UK).
