Helmholtz Zentrum München- German Research Center for Environmental Health

The Helmholtz Zentrum München was founded 1964 as the Gesellschaft für Strahlenforschung (GSF). The Partners in the Helmholtz Zentrum München are the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Bavaria. The Helmholtz Zentrum München is a research institution of the Federal Government and the State of Bavaria within the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres with approximately 1700 associates in 25 institutes and departments. The main research site is located in the north of Munich. Several groups are closely linked to the universities and hospitals. The research projects of the Helmholtz Zentrum München are focussed on 4 complementary thematic fields:

  • Environmental factors and health

  • Mechanistic principles of health and disease

  • Infection and immunity

  • Ecosystems and health
