Originally, name for elementary particles with a mass
between the muon mass and the nucleon mass. The group of mesons now
include the elementary particles which, like the baryons are subject to both strong and weak and electromagnetic interaction,
but in contrast to the baryons, with a spin equal to zero. For example
pions and K-mesons belong to the mesons. elementary
