Research Centre Jülich

scroll

The Research Centre Jülich is one of the 16 Helmholtz research centres in the Federal Republic of Germany employing 4,500 persons – including about 1,100 scientists/university graduates, 480 doctoral candidates, 250 students taking their diploma examination and 300 trainees - in a wide spectrum of research tasks. The research programme focuses on the subjects "structure of matter and material research", "information technology", "life sciences", „preventive environmental research" and „energy technology“. The aim of these focuses is,

  • to understand the structure and properties of our matter and provide materials based on this knowledge for many technical sectors,

  • to pursue new developments in information technology used to process and exchange the continuously increasing quantity of knowledge and information,

  • to extend the knowledge of biological processes in the human body on a molecular level,

  • to avoid or detect at an early stage and eliminate threats to the environment,

  • to develop options for a long-term and environment-friendly energy supply to the constantly growing world population.
