The Verein für Kernverfahrenstechnik und Analytik Rossendorf e.V. (VKTA/ Nuclear Engineering and Analytics Rossendorf Inc.) is charged with the decommissioning and dismantling of the old nuclear facilities at the Rossendorf research site (nearby Dresden, Saxony), some of which have been existing since 1957.

VKTA is been entrusted by the Free State of Saxony with a number of further tasks covering environment, radiation protection and major services within the range of competence for the Research Centre Rossendorf (FZR) which is situated at the same site as well as for other partners. In addition VKTA participates in research and development projects.

VKTA fields of business are:

• Environment and radiation protection

• Decommissioning of nuclear installations

• Analytical work accompanying decommissioning and environmental analytics

• Radioactive waste management.

In addition to that VKTA manages:

• Incorporation Monitoring Facility

• Collecting Station for Radioactive Wastes of the Free State of Saxony

• Accredited Laboratory for Environmental and Radionuclide Analytics (with low-level underground laboratory for determination of lowest-level activities)
