European Economic and Social CommitteeThe Economic and Social Committee
(EESC or “Ecosoc”) is
the EU consultative body which represents the civil society organisations
and association in various categories of economic and social activities,
and offers them a forum for debate and reflection. EESC is made up of
222 members, drawn from organisations representing employers, employees,
farmers, SMEs, commerce, crafts, cooperatives, mutual benefit societies,
the professions, consumers, environmentalists, families, "social"
NGOs, etc... EESC mission is to advise the three EU leading institutions
(EP, EC, Council); to promote a greater commitment/contribution from
civil society to the European venture that is close to its public; to
bolster the role of civil society organisations and associations in
non-Community countries (CEEC, Turkey, the EUROMED, ACP and MERCOSUR
