Institute for Energy (IE), in Petten, Netherlands: Support to the European policy-making process and focal point for Industry through research, knowledge and understanding in the scope of clean and sustainable energy in both nuclear and non-nuclear domains. Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES), in Ispra, Italy, is part of the EC.JRC. The aim of IES is to provide scientific and technical support to EU strategies for the protection of the environment contributing to a sustainable development. IES works in close collaboration with EU research laboratories and industries. Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP), in Ispra, Italy, was established in 1998, as one of the seven Institutes of the Directorate General Joint Research Centre (DG.JRC). The IHCP mission is to provide scientific support to the development and implementation of EU policies related to health and consumer protection. The Institute for health and Consumer Protection carry out research to improve the understanding of potential health risks posed by chemicals, biocides, genetically modified organisms, contaminants released from food contact materials and consumer products:

Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), in Seville, Spain, is one of the 7 scientific institutes of the EC.JRC which was set up in 1994 and has over 100 employees: IPTS focus on analysing the links between technology, economy and society. It provides EU policy makers with techno-economic analysis. Its work focuses on monitoring and analysing science and technology developments and the impact they have on society and the economy.
