The international
topical meeting on Research Reactor Fuel Management (RRFM) has
been successfully run since 1997 to provide an open forum for
the exchange of information on all significant aspects of the
nuclear fuel cycle.
At present, 277 research reactors are operational,
259 shutdown, but not yet decommissioned, and 17 being built or
planned around the world. These reactors are, or have been used
for materials testing, pure and applied research, medical applications,
radioisotope production, and teaching/training. In all cases the
fuel supply, including new fuel options, spent fuel management
and options for storage and disposal remain areas of concern for
reactor operators and other stakeholders.
The seventh two-day event in this series, RRFM 2003, will take
place in Aix en Provence, France, from March 9-12, 2003 with more
than 170 participants. The meeting focussed on key areas of development
and current concern, including operational aspects of improvements
in the physical security of research reactor fuel. |
