RRFM 2006 - Social Programme

10th International Topical Meeting on Research Reactor Fuel Management (RRFM)

RRFM 2006
Social Programme

Social programme

Networking is a major benefit of the RRFM conference, because the research reactor community is small and highly specialised. The social events help connect the conference delegates and are included in the registration fee.

Guided City Walking Tour

A guided City Walking Tour to discover the best sights of Sofia’s historical city centre will be organised on Sunday 30 April 2006. A perfect way to start your visit to Sofia!

The tour will start at 2.30 pm to end at 5 pm. Please gather in the city centre at the entrance of the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, Sofia’s most important landmark.

The tour covers the area between the Alexander Nevski Cathedral and the covered Hali Market to the north of the historic city centre and includes the following visits:

  • The Alexander Nevski Cathedral and the Russian St Nicholas Church

  • Alexander Battenberg Square with the former Royal Palace

  • Ivan Vazov National Theatre and Sofia City Park

  • St George Rotunda Church

  • Around Maria Luiza Boulevard: Banya Bashi Mosque, synagogue and Hali Market

The tour is included in the registration fee of the RRFM delegates. Accompanying Persons can participate free of charge.

Welcome Cocktail

Come and meet your fellow delegates at the Welcome Cocktail (walking dinner) on Sunday 30 April from 19.00-21.00, organised at the National Archeological Museum in the city centre (Alexander Battenberg Square).

The museum is housed in the former Ottoman Great Mosque, covered by nine domes, which dates back to 1496. The beautiful, spacious interior was completely renovated in the 1990s. The collection includes Thracian artefacts, Roman statues and tablets, Byzantine columns, and medieval religious paintings – a lovely setting for the RRFM cocktail.

Accompanying Persons are welcome to attend the Welcome Cocktail at an additional cost.

Bulgarian evening offered by AREVA

On Monday 1 May, the RRFM delegates are invited to a Bulgarian evening, organised by the AREVA Group at the Vodenitzata (“Watermill”) Restaurant. The Vodenitzata is the most well-known traditional restaurant in Sofia, located at the foot of Vitosha mountains at the site of an old watermill. The delegates will enjoy fine Bulgarian gastronomy and a whirling show of folklore music and dance.
