ITER European Joint Undertaking is located in Barcelona
The European Commission announced on 28 June 2007 in a press release the inauguration of the new “European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy”, also called “Fusion for Energy”, based in Barcelona, Spain. The task of the Joint Undertaking will be to organise the contributions of EU Member States to the construction of the fusion reactor in Cadarache, France. Indeed Europe, as the party hosting ITER, has agreed to provide around half of the components. “Fusion for Energy” will be in charge of releasing the procurements for the contracts for fabrication, supply, service, engineering support… The ITER construction will be covered by about 220 contracts of an average value of 14 M€.
