The ENS website has won an Award!

We are pleased to announce that the ENS website has won an Award for Merit in the Trans-European Technical Communications Competition organised by the Society for Technical Communication.

The initial purpose of the ENS Secretariat when it entered the competition was only to get expert advice on how the website could be improved, bearing in mind that the website has been entirely redesigned following the move of the Secretariat from Bern (Switzerland) to Brussels (Belgium) in 2003. The website being a major ENS communication tool, its quality and efficiency are vital.

The work on the current website started in April 2003. The goal was to create an inter-active platform for Member Societies and Corporate Members as well as for those members of the general public who show interest in nuclear science and technology.

The website entered the Technical Communications Competition in the Technical Publications category under "Technical Marketing". The review was in the hands of a jury of professional technical communicators. In summarising their evaluation, the judges stated the following:

"Overall, we felt that the ENS website provides an extremely comprehensive information resource for anybody interested in the peaceful use of nuclear technologies. A huge amount of effort has clearly gone into the site development. The content of the site, which we felt was well organized, well written and well presented, is rich in detail and yet still accessible and easy to read for novice users. For these reasons we felt that the site goes a great way to meeting its objectives, and we feel the entry is worthy of a Merit award".

Hearing that the website had actually won an award came as an unexpected bonus for the ENS Secretariat. Not all entries receive an award. For an entry to receive an award, the Competition's rules state that it must be thorough, accurate, useful, appropriate, and well executed. The condition to win an Award for Merit is to show high standards in most areas.

The Secretariat is pleased to see its efforts rewarded, and intends to maintain the high standard of the website in future.
