Technical Tours

On Thursday 16 February two technical tours are planned for delegates of the TopSafe 2017 conference:

Visit of the new build site at Mochovce NPP

Mochovce NPP

The Mochovce NPP is located in the south of Slovakia, between the towns of Nitra and Levice. Next to two operating units, the site hosts one of the three projects of nuclear power plants currently under construction in Europe: the construction of Mochovce Units 3 and 4. Construction of these VVER 440/V-213 type units, which will have 471 MWe output each, re-started in November 2008.

Departure from IAEA: 7.00
Return at IAEA: 16.30

Visit of the nuclear power plant in Zwentendorf

In Zwentendorf, close to the river Danube, the first and only Austrian nuclear power plant (GKT) has been built in the 1970s. Based on a referendum in 1978 the 98% completed Boiling Water Reactor with 723 MWe was never taken into operation. Today the plant is mainly used for training purposes as it is a complete nuclear power plant but without any radiation protection measures necessary as there was never nuclear operation. During the tour the following locations inside the plant will be visited: reactor hall with open reactor pressure vessel and spent fuel pool, containment with accessible pressure suppression pool, control rod drive compartment, turbine hall and main control room.
