GRE@T-PIONEeR is glad to announce a new course ready to start in June: “Core modelling for transients”

  • From 12th December 2025 to 16th January 2026 – Online & in Gothenburg (Hybrid format)

The course aims at:

  • Making use of the capabilities of the AKR-2 training reactor.
  • Contributing to the development of hands-on skills in nuclear reactor physics by making use of the AKR-2 reactor.
  • Providing experiments that illustrate real applications of nuclear research reactors, such as the production of radioisotopes for medical and industrial purposes or the utilization of neutron activation analysis techniques for the identification of unknown samples.
  • Providing a condensed introduction to nuclear reactor physics/kinetics that helps better assimilate and understand the behaviour of nuclear reactor
    systems.

The pedagogical format of the course is based on a hybrid flipped classroom.

The target audience for the course is:

MSc students, PhD students and Post-Doc students having some background knowledge in nuclear engineering.
Nuclear engineers.
Reactor physicists.
Nuclear safety analysts.
Research scientists in the above fields.

Registrations close on 2Nnd November 2025.

GRE@T-PIONEeR is a project which developed specialised education and training resources for post-graduate students in reactor physics and safety.

The aim was to create an alliance aimed at teaching advanced and specialised reactor physics and nuclear reactor safety while making use of synergies between the different consortium members.

The project offers materials which allow students to fully comprehend topics related to the physics, modelling and safety of nuclear reactors, with an emphasis on nuclear cores. By following the courses and hands-on training sessions, the students are able to perform nuclear reactor safety simulations and understand all the calculations behind these simulations.
