Nuclear power plant Biblis/Rhine, unit B, was a pressurized water reactor with a gross electrical output of 1,300 MW, commissioned on 25th March 1976. Biblis nuclear power stations’ final shutdown was on 6th August 2011, and applications for decommissioning started on 6th August 2012. During its lifetime, Biblis B generated 247,4 TWh.

Permits to decommission Germany’s Biblis nuclear power station have been issued to RWE Power following approval of its plans by the ministry of the environment in the state of Hessen in 2017.

In October 2019, Orano and EWN (Entsorgungswerk für Nuklearanlagen GmbH), has been awarded a contract by German utility RWE to carry out strategic dismantling operations for Biblis NPPs. The agreement covers the segmentation and packaging of the RPV-internals of unit A and B. The operations will be conducted from 2021 to 2023.
