Assumption models to calculate the radiation exposure through radioactive waste disposal in the exhaust air of a nuclear plant. The result of such a dispersion calculation supplies local concentration values for radionuclides. The radiation generated during the decay of these radionuclides may in principle lead to a radiation exposure for human beings via the following paths:

External irradiation through beta radiation within the effluent flume
External irradiation through gamma radiation within the effluent flume
External irradiation through gamma radiation from radioactive
substances deposited on the ground
Internal irradiation through inhalation of radioactive substances in the airInternal irradiation through ingestion of radioactive substances with food via
  • air – plant
  • air – forage plant – cow – milk
  • air – forage plant – animal – meat
  • mother’s milk.

Models and calculation assumptions for radiation exposure via the exhaust air path are included in the administrative instruction “Determination of radiation exposure through radioactive waste disposal from nuclear plants or facilities”.
