Forschungs- und Meßreaktor Braunschweig was a research and measuring pool reactor in Brunswick, operated by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (National Metrology Institute which performs scientific and technical services). FMRB had a thermal output of 1 MW. Commissioned on 3rd Dec. 1967, the reactor was not restarted after the routine shutdown in December 1995 due to economic considerations, although in April 1995 the federal government still assumed that it would restart and operate until the available fuel was used, estimated in 2003. The decommissioning license was approved in March 2001.
