EDF Creates FINABe Advisory Board to Support Financing of New Nuclear Projects
During the recent Nuclear Energy Summit 2026 in Paris, EDF (ENS Corporate Member) announced the creation of its international advisory board FINABe (Financing and Investing in Nuclear – Advisory Board EDF), dedicated to facilitating the financing and investment of new nuclear projects worldwide.
Bringing together leading experts from the energy and finance sectors, the board seeks to anticipate market expectations, share best practices and contribute to the development of financial expertise dedicated to nuclear investments for both large-scale reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs).
Against this backdrop, EDF highlights that growing global demand for low-carbon electricity could lead to a significant expansion of nuclear capacity in the coming decades, as nuclear energy remains a key lever to address energy security and climate challenges.
In this regard, the French state-owned utility quoted projections by the International Energy Agency indicating that installed nuclear capacity could increase from about 400 GW today to between 600 GW and 1,000 GW over the next 20 to 30 years.
“As many countries consider launching new nuclear programmes, access to credible financing solutions is now as decisive as the choice of technology itself,”
stated Claude Laruelle, EDF Group Executive Director in charge of Performance, Impact, Investment and Finance.

Organised by France in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on 10 March, the Nuclear Energy Summit was also the occasion for the European Commission to unveil a new strategy for Small Modular Reactors, including a €200 million European guarantee to stimulate private investment in innovative nuclear technologies.
ENS took part in the summit discussions, and co-organised an official side event on 9 March titled “What R&D Infrastructure to Support the Nuclear Revival?” with the French Nuclear Energy Society (ENS Member Society), in partnership with CEA (ENS Corporate Member).
