ENS Elects Stefano Monti As New President

Dr. Eng. Stefano Monti, elected new President of the European Nuclear Society

On 14 December, the ENS General Assembly elected Dr. Eng. Stefano Monti as the new President of the European Nuclear Society (ENS).

Dr. Monti will assume his duties as ENS President on 1st January 2024, replacing incumbent President Prof. Leon Cizelj.

Prof. Cizelj will continue to support the ENS Secretariat as an active Past President from January 2024 onwards.

Stefano Monti is currently President of the Italian Nuclear Association (ENS Member Society) and Director of Research at ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development. Until November 2022 he was Head of the Nuclear Power Technology Development Section of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Before joining the IAEA, he was Head of the Division Reactor and Fuel Cycle Safety and Security Methods of ENEA, President of SIET, a world leader company in experimental tests in support of the nuclear industry, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN).

Stefano has been serving in various international nuclear committees including the Steering Committee and the Committee for Technical and Economic Studies on Nuclear Energy Development and the Fuel Cycle of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, the Executive Committee of the European Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform (SNETP), the European Sustainable Nuclear Industrial Initiative, the IAEA Technical Working Group on Fast Reactors.

Thanks to his forty-year experience in the nuclear field and in managing international organizations, with Dr. Eng. Stefano Monti at the helm ENS is looking forward to further strengthening its position as a Learned, scientific society at the European and international level, open to expanding its network and creating new collaborations.
