Framatome and Leibstadt NPP Signed A Long-Term Fuel Supply Contract
Framatome and Kernkraftwerk Leibstadt AG (KKL – both ENS Corporate Members) have signed a long-term contract to supply ATRIUM 11 fuel assemblies to its Swiss nuclear power plant over the period 2028-2035.
Framatome has been supplying KKL since 2008, providing ATRIUM 11 – a fuel product specific for BWR design – since 2012.
With this contract signed with Framatome, KKL confirms its commitment to the long-term operation of the nuclear power plant through solutions that are geared towards the safety, reliability and efficiency of the plant
says Bruno Zimmermann, Member of the Board of Directors at KKL.
In the framework of this long-term collaboration, earlier this year Framatome and Leibstadt NPP signed another contract to modernize instrumentation and control (I&C) systems, thanks to investments including the complete replacement of the safety I&C for the engineered safety functions, leading to significant improvements in plant operation and availability, in addition to an ease of maintenance in the future.
Leibstadt NPP celebrated its 40th anniversary on 2024, when it also recorded one of its highest outputs since its commissioning in 1984, 9.6 TWh.
With an output of 1,285 MW, KKL is the most powerful nuclear power plant in Switzerland, generating almost 15% of all Swiss electricity generation and providing electricity for two million households every day.
